Various signs of aging are bound to show up at some point. When they do, the best we can hope for is to be prepared. Here, we discuss the details of Juvederm XC treatment to help you know what to do when the signs of aging come calling.
Juvéderm XC is one of several fillers in the Juvéderm family. It has been widely used to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles since its FDA approval in 2010. The approved injectable treatment includes particles of hyaluronic acid in a gel base. Also included in the formulation is lidocaine, a local anesthetic intended to make treatment more comfortable.
The hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm plumps the surface of the skin from underneath. When hyaluronic acid is introduced to tissue, it binds to water molecules, thereby bringing more volume into the area being treated. By boosting the volume of the “underbelly of the skin,” Juvéderm pushes surface tissue outward, bringing lines and creases into alignment with surrounding tissue. The XC in Juvéderm XC is an indication of the lidocaine that is included in the formulation. Lidocaine does not affect the results of treatment but it does immediately soothe nerves to make injections more comfortable.
Dermal filler treatment is intended to be easy, comfortable, and convenient. Patients do not need to take measures to prepare for treatment, nor do they need to schedule much downtime at all. The average treatment requires less than an hour in the office. Because there is a local anesthetic in the filler itself, there is no extra time incurred to apply a topical numbing cream.
If you are new to our office, your Juvéderm treatment will involve a brief consultation to help us understand your concerns and goals. After this initial meeting, we can immediately perform your treatment. To reduce the appearance of lines, add volume to the lips, or contour the cheekbones takes multiple injections. Remember, lidocaine quickly numbs the skin so there should be no pain.
With each injection, the provider can see the effects of Juvéderm XC. The skin plumps immediately. This enables us to achieve just the right amount of volume to give the face or hands the most naturally youthful appearance.
Once injections are done, you can resume your normal daily activities. Side effects of injectable treatment include redness, swelling, and possibly some bruising. If you are new to dermal fillers, you may wish to schedule your treatment at the end of the day when you can go straight home to observe how quickly you recover.
